Not Elevator Music, But Rather Elevating Music
If you want to find out all things Celtic music, you’ve got to check out The CelticMusicFan’s Weblog. Anne received a stellar review in this popular online blog--“I have heard most of her songs...and I tell you, this is something that you will not want to miss. This is not elevator music but rather elevating music.”
Read more:
“Unknown to some, there is a part of me that also digs rock. So when I heard Anne Roos play “The Unforgiven” by Metallica and “Stairway to Heaven” by Led Zeppelin, my interest was piqued. On an occasional observer, she may impose an airy fairy image perfect for Renaissance Fair. But this lady in not one-dimensional. Apart from being an accomplished harpist with formal training, she has also written books under her belt.
Her music is in demand in the wedding circle . Her books are sought after by musicians who want to make their careers playing in wedding receptions. Apart from being technical, she is also instinctive. And she can take a joke.I have heard most of her songs in her MySpace page and I tell you, this is something that you will not want to miss. This is not elevator music but rather elevating music. You can also get a glimpse of her books that are accompanied in the CDs. They are perfect companion to your coffee table.”
The Celtic Music Fan blogmaster Jose Rommel “baxter” Labatos first fell in love with Enya’s Watermark album and then he just started collecting anything and everything Celtic music. Baxter created a blog to connect with others who also love Celtic music. The Celtic Music Fan’s Blog, a collection of album reviews and artist interviews, is fast becoming the one stop place to find out what’s new in Celtic music on the Internet.

Anne Roos Teams up With Banjo Bunny E-Cards
If you just happen to be surfing about the Internet and fall down a rabbit hole filled with some fuzzy banjo pickin'-critters that are considered the most original whimsical, inventive, and funny animated e-cards in the universe, you aren’t lost. You’ve just discovered Banjo Bunny E-Cards! And Anne Roos is pleased and tickled to announce that her music is now part of these fantastic and absolutely unique Internet greeting cards.
Anne’s music premiers on Banjo Bunny’s newest Thanksgiving e-card: “Grateful Harp”. This card is graced with the song “Epping Forest”, an old English dance tune dating back to 1670. The full version of this tune is a track from Anne’s A Light in the Forest CD. What a fabulous way to sample the tune! (you can purchase it as a download on iTunes and Amazon.com.)
The gorgeous photography in the Grateful Harp e-card was shot by Susan J. Preston, Bunny in Charge at Banjo Bunny E-Cards. When you visit her rabbit hutch at www.banjobunny.com, you’ll find more than 150 E-Cards from which to choose--A number which, like bunnies, continues to multiply. Banjo Bunny’s mission is simple--To reduce the amount of droopy-eared depression in the world, one elegantly goofy e-card at a time.
Like multiplying bunnies, there are many more e-cards on their way that will include Anne’s music. So, what are you waiting for? Hop to BanjoBunny.com and start sending those magical cards!
And for Anne’s music, check out A Light in the Forest and all of her CDs on many online stores such as Amazon.com and CDBaby.com. They are also available for purchase at retail outlets such as Barnes and Noble Booksellers and Borders stores. Autographed albums can be purchased at www.celticharpmusic.com, the only place where you can buy three of Anne’s CDs for the price of two--a money saving option for holiday gifts.

Renaissance Magazine Calls Anne Roos’ Wedding CD "One of the Best Collections of Celtic Harp Music"
“Haste to the Wedding is one of the best Celtic and Renaissance harp CDs you will ever find. It is also an excellent guide for any Olde World wedding,” proclaims Michael Lohr in Issue #67 of Renaissance Magazine. You’ll find his full review of Anne Roos’ wedding CD on pages 72 and 73 of this issue. Here are some highlights of the review:
“Anne Roos is a superb harpist...Haste to the Wedding is one of the best collections of Celtic harp music you will find. Full of Irish and Scottish courting and wedding songs, the CD is grouped by ceremonial sections: prelude music, processional music, unity candle/exchange of vows music, and recessional music.
Anne, who studied music theory at UCLA, proves to be a musical historian...A 48-page booklet accompanies the CD and provides a wonderful overview of traditional ceremonies and songs.
Haste to the Wedding is one of the best Celtic and Renaissance harp CDs you will ever find. It is also an excellent guide for any Olde World wedding.”

Way Cool! Roctober Magazine Reviews Anne Roos' CD Book Collection
In issue #46 of Roctober Magazine, you’ll find Flamin’ Waymon Timbsdayle’s review of Anne Roos’ albums. Here’s what he had to say:
“Roos is a master of the enchanting, angelic Irish harp, and these CDs tell cinematic, romantic stories more vividly than narratives with extraneous things like words ever could.”
Roctober Magazine (and on myspace) is a journal of in-depth interviews, lengthy articles, brilliant comics, and ridiculous reviews celebrating unjustly obscure musical icons, enigmas, and eccentrics. Roctober is wild, cool, and simply put, not your grandmother’s magazine. Anne is tickled that her music was reviewed in this magazine--It proves that Celtic music can be cool, too.
Anne Roos' CD book collection is on the Cambria Master Recordings label. The entire collection can be purchased at a discount at Anne's website, and she'll also autograph them for you. and can also be purchased online at Amazon.com, CDBaby.com, and many online stores.

Renaissance Magazine Calls Anne Roos’ Music “A Genuine Treat”
Anne Roos’ 5.1 Surround Sound CD, A Light in the Forest, is “Highly recommended to those who enjoy Celtic harp and traditional music,” says Elaine Cunningham on pages 65-66 in Issue #65 of Renaissance Magazine. Here is an excerpt of the review:
“A Light in the Forest, the latest CD from Celtic harper Anne Roos, is a genuine treat for people who like their traditional music played well, without electronic embellishment, in simple but interesting arrangements. This beautifully produced collection is presented in a booklet that illuminates each track with notes, stories, poetry, and art. Organized around a forest theme, this collection of traditional and early music has a nice sense of coherence while offering considerable variety.
Highly recommended to those who enjoy Celtic harp and traditional music, this would also be a good choice for those seeking music that evokes a Renaissance spirit while remaining easily accessible to the casual listener.”

A Superb Manual for Anyone Wanting to Break Into the World of Wedding Gigs (Or Any Gigs)
On the online book review website, Bookpleasures.com, Norm Goldman praises Anne Roos’ The Musician’s Guide to Brides: How to Make Money Playing Weddings as a superb manual for any gigging musician, because, “many of the principles explored can be adapted to most musical engagements. His complete review was posted on Bookpleasures.com:
“If you are a musician and your looking for another avenue of revenue, you may want to pick up a copy of Anne Roos’ The Musicians’ Guide To Brides: How To Make Money Playing Weddings. Although, I have not done any extensive research on the subject, I doubt if there is any other manual on the market that is as comprehensive as this one pertaining to wedding gigs.
Roos commenced in her musical career in 1983 playing the Celtic Harp. Her initial gigs were with Renaissance fairs where she became quite popular and this led to receiving many requests to perform at weddings and corporate events. She has been performing at weddings for more than twenty-five years and she also regularly appears on radio and television. In addition to her music career, Roos has served on the Board of the Lake Tahoe Wedding and Honeymoon Association and is a member of the Association of Bridal Consultants. As a professional musician and arranger, she has served on the Board of Governors of the San Francisco Chapter of the Recording Academy.
Roos carefully divides her three hundred and twenty-one page manual into fourteen chapters and also includes three appendices where she discusses a repertoire to get started, netiquette for wedding musicians and suggested further reading.
The gamut of topics covered run from creating the right mindset to perform at weddings, to what it takes, your wedding music inventory, setting your fees, performance agreements, promotion and advertising, exhibiting at bridal fairs, selling your services to the bride, dealing with various intermediaries as booking agents, wedding coordinators, mother of the bride, the groom or other family member and friends, relations with the bride and avoiding problems, preparation for the wedding day, hiring a roadie, and following up with clients. In addition, sprinkled throughout are various worksheets and other documentation that will no doubt prove to be of great assistance such as the equipment inventory worksheet and checklist, the wedding music inventory worksheet, a sample performance agreement, what to include in your promotional materials, bridal fair worksheet and checklist, sales call checklist, and the wedding day timeline and checklist.
All are presented in a user-friendly, step-by-step format that will help you tap into a fifty billion dollar industry where opportunities are overflowing when you consider that there are over 2.4 million weddings performed each year in the USA alone.
It should be pointed out, as Roos mentions in the Preface, her own experience performing at weddings is diverse, but by no means complete. Consequently, in putting together her manual she has received input from various individuals who are tied into the wedding event business such as coordinators, booking agents, celebrants, and ceremony reception managers.
Throughout the manual, Roos underlines one vital facet of playing at weddings and that is that it is important to have a clear communication between the bride and her musicians. After all, it is her big day and unlike other gigs where you can just about play anything you feel like, it is important to realize that she is the one who is in charge. She gets to select the special music that will make her wedding day magical. Wedding musicians are an important member of the team that participate in the wedding, however, they should keep in mind at all times that their role is not to upstate the bride.
Easy to use, clearly laid out, and very well-written, this is a superb manual for anyone wanting to break into the world of wedding gigs or for that matter any gigs, as many of the principles explored can be adapted to most musical engagements.”

A 5+ Star Rating for Anne Roos' Surround Sound Album
“Celtic Radio gives Anne Roos’ A Light in the Forest a 5+ star rating for truly a masterpiece production of sound and music.” Read the entire review, as it appears on the CelticRadio.net website:
“Anne Roos' CD – A Light in the Forest - is a masterpiece of music and sounds that will gently take you away to a world of ancient melodies, majestic forests, fairies, castles and witches. This musical creation includes Anne on the Celtic Harp along with musicians playing flutes, recorders, whistles, percussions, viola, guitars and fiddles. Beautifully organized and arranged, A Light in the Forest is a splendid way to spend an autumn evening listening to the sounds of the season.
The CD comes in a gorgeous hardcover mini-book with 32 pages of full color pictures and commentary as well as historical background on each song. This production is very unique and top quality with the CD produced in super audio. It will definitely have a special place in your Celtic music collection. And if you love A Light in the Forest, we are certain you will love Anne's other 2 similar productions; Haste to the Wedding and Mermaids & Mariners - also in the same format with hardcover mini-book included.
Celtic Radio gives Anne Roos' A Light in the Forest a 5+ star rating for truly a masterpiece production of sound and music. The included CD mini-book is certainly the best and most unique production that we have seen in our 7 years of operation and makes this a very compelling package to add to your Celtic music CD collection or as a gift to that someone special!”

Latest Review of Anne Roos' New Book--"WOW!"
Elizabeth Paine sums up Anne Roos’ The Musician’s Guide to Brides: How to Make Money Playing Weddings in one word—“WOW!” Of course, she has more to say in her interview that appeared in the Fall 2008 Issue of the Folk Harp Journal:
“If I had to choose just one word to describe this new book by Anne Roos, it would be WOW!
Eloquent, I know.
Whether you have played one wedding or one hundred, you will benefit greatly from this book. Anyone playing any instrument for weddings (or really for any other kind of event) will find a true treasure of useful, practical information in this book that you will use time and time again.
One really nice thing about this book is that it is directed toward all musicians—not just harpists. Vocalists, organists, ensembles, even deejays can benefit from the information here.
The general rule when playing for weddings often seems to be “expect the unexpected.” There is no way for one person or one book to ever foresee every possible issue you might ever encounter, but this book comes about as close as you can get. I have been playing weddings for more than 25 years, and I cannot think of a single topic that has not been addressed here, which is pretty amazing!
Anne provides information about how to build a repertoire for weddings, deal with booking agents and wedding coordinators, determining what to charge, dealing with musical partners, what you need in your gig bag, dealing with mothers of brides (oh boy!), what to wear, putting together a performance agreement, advertising and marketing yourself and your services, etc. The list of topics covered is just amazing and too long to list here.
One of the many features that I really appreciate about this book is that Anne provides checklists and forms that you can make copies of and put in a binder to use every time you go out on a gig or whenever you are talking to a client on the phone about a prospective gig, which are really useful because it is so easy to get off track during phone conversations. These forms can be used to help both you and your client get the information you need. There is even a section that discusses how to make the best use of technology (Web, e-mail, text messages, etc.) to conduct your business.
I just cannot recommend this book highly enough. No matter how many wedding you have played at or want to play at or what instrument you play, you will find truly valuable information with every turn of the page.”

An Amazing Album from An Amazing Harpist-Anne Roos' Latest Review
“Anne Roos is an amazing harpist, and this CD showcases her talents beautifully,” says Catherine L. Tully about Anne Roos’ performance on her most recent album release, A Light in the Forest. She adds, “Roos’ harp music is effortless. Gliding and sliding over notes, she shows her skill time and again...”
Here is Ms. Tully’s entire review, as it appears on the Celtic MP3s Music Magazine website:
“Anne Roos is an amazing harpist and this CD showcases her talents beautifully. A small musical group joins her on this effort, which highlights songs about woodland creatures such as fairies, nymphs and trolls. A 31 page hardcover book comes with the CD and it talks about various folk history and legends--a nice touch to a well thought out musical effort.
The group provides a lovely sound. CDs that are put forth only showcasing harp music can be nice, but it is equally wonderful to have some additional accompaniment; and it expands the amount of people that it will appeal to as well.
Roos' harp music is effortless. Gliding and sliding over notes, she shows her skill time and again, but this isn't "gaudy" music. It's simple, pretty fare. At 18 tracks, there are quite a few songs to enjoy here, each offering its own mood and feel. The gentleness of the harp is underscored in some pieces, the yearning almost palpable. If you love the instrument, you have to listen to this and see what can be done with the various arrangements. If you aren't a huge fan of the harp, there are still plenty of tracks here that you can enjoy.”
The author of this review, Catherine L. Tully, is a freelance writer and photographer. She specializes in the arts. She has written for American Style and Classical Singer, among other magazines, and reviews music for Marc Gunn's Celtic MP3s Music Magazine. You can reach her through her website at CatherineLTully.com.

The website is hosted by Marc Gunn. He also hosts five podcasts, including the Renaissance Festival Podcast and the highly celebrated Irish & Celtic Music Podcast, which is one of the most popular music podcasts on iTunes.

Hot Review of Anne Roos' 5.1 Surround Sound CD
“What brings this CD up a level from just another pretty harp album is Roos’ sharp and clean harp playing,” stated Lahri Bond about Anne Roos’ newest CD release, A Light in the Forest. Here is her entire review as it appears in the upcoming June/July 2008 issue of Dirty Linen Magazine:
Here is a nifty little idea; combine a CD of Celtic harp music, thematically connected by songs about forest and faerie lore, with a CD-sized hardcover book of background information and stories associated with each song. In the hands of a lesser player than Anne Roos, this could have easily been an exercise in prancing around the pixie dust, but Roos’ research, design sensibility, and, most of all, her masterful playing makes this project a delight.
Joined by Char Berta on woodwinds, Chris Caswell on harmonium and percussion, Michael Frost’s viola, Alan Fuller’s guitars and cittern, and Dorothy A. Hawkinson’s spectral Hardanger fiddle, Roos takes center stage with her sweeping and articulate harp playing on 18 tunes, most of which are traditional. There is also a clutch of songs penned by Hawkinson, such as the richly melodic “Artemisia,” the sprightly “Bourree de la Luciole” (“Dance of the Firefly”), and “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”-inspired “Bottom’s Dream.” What brings this CD up a level from just another pretty harp album is Roos’ sharp and clean harp playing. She also has a fine ear for melody and timing, which causes the listener to hear anew such time-honored songs as “King of the Fairies,” “Epping Forest,” and “The Gold Ring.”
The booklet is richly illustrated with paintings from such artists as Frank Goodwin and William Holbrook Beard and a host of Victorian postcard illustrations. Overall, this is an exceptional marriage of music, words, and visuals that both adults and children would enjoy very much."

Latest Review from Anne Roos' CD "Haste to the Wedding"--Reviewed by Her Colleagues!
"...Many of the pieces have a positively ethereal feel," states The Fall 2006 issue of the Folk Harp Journal about Anne Roos' latest album release Haste to the Wedding. The review also sites Anne's "accomplished playing" in a recording with "exceptional packaging", concluding that, "As a device for brides to choose music for their weddings, this is a clever idea; as a keepsake favor from a wedding, it would be a delight."
The Folk Harp Journal is the official publication of the International Society of Folk Harpers and Craftsmen, an organization whose mission is to increase awareness of professional folk harpers, and to increase public awareness of the music and joys of the folk harp. Anne explains, "I always feel honored when my recordings are reviewed by my colleagues in the Folk Harp Journal".
Here is the entire review:
The first thing to notice about this album is its exceptional packaging--a small gift book, with embossed lacy texture on the cover and a cutout to show the first of many full-color illustrations. The CD is in a sleeve bound into the book, which contains not only the playlist but also recipes, fragments of poetry, old sayings, and snippets of lore about traditional Celtic weddings.
Roos's accomplished playing offers wedding selections that range from prelude to processional, music during the ceremony, and recessional pieces. Prelude pieces include a haunting "My True Love's Hair" followed by an equally compelling "My Lagan Love," a stately rendition of "Ay Waukin O!" the second and third airs of "Bridget Cruise," and more. Among the processional tracks is an elegant rendering of the "Manx Courting Song," which begins with simple harp notes and then fills out with the sounds of bodhran and mandolin, and "The Gentle Maiden," a harp solo. There is also a lovely waltz version of "Star of the County Down." Ceremony music includes a return to "Bridget Cruise" for the first and fourth airs, a poignant version of"She Moved Through the Fair" that pairs harp with fiddle and then adds mandolin, and the sweet strains of "Women of Ireland."
Interestingly, in the first three categories of music, minor keys and slower tempos predominate, and many of the pieces have a positively ethereal feel; the recessional selections are all more upbeat and lively, including a revisitation of "Star of the County Down" played as a march.
Other instruments on the album include accordion, guitar, hardingfele, the aforementioned mandolin and octave mandolin, bodhran, and other percussion. As a device for brides to choose music for their weddings, this is a clever idea; as a keepsake favor from a wedding, it would be a delight.
Haste to the Wedding is on the Cambria Master Recordings label. Marketing through Joshua Cheek at 734-769-1676. Haste to the Wedding and the music of Anne Roos is available at www.celticharpmusic.com. For purchase information contact Anne direct at: anne@celticharpmusic.com or call 800-255-6318.

Is it Traditional Celtic Music or is it Metallica?
Find Out By Listening to Anne Roos on the Celtic Folk Podcast
"Metallica on a harp. That's what I need to play on this podcast," remarked Al Mann, host of the Celtic Folk Podcast. In the June 28, 2006 show called "Traditional Sounds", he featured the tune "Jacky Tar" from Anne's Mermaids & Mariners CD--even though he yearned to hear one of her renditions of a Metallica cover.
In his notes on the Celtic Folk Podcast website, Mann went on to say, "Anne is at the top of the ladder as a tradiitional Celtic harpist. She doesn't just limit herself and her instrument to traditional tunes, however. You may find her getting down to some Metallica!" Well, maybe on his show next time around.
The Celtic Folk Podcast showcases Celtic and traditional music from around the world. Download this show, featuring Anne Roos, at www.CelticFolkPod.com (show number 5). This weekly podcast is also available for subscription on iTunes.

Mermaids & Mariners Nominated for Worldwide Broadcasters Award
Anne Roos' nautical flavored album, Mermaids & Mariners, is nominated for Best Celtic Album of 2005 by NewAgeReporter.com, as part of their yearly LifeStyle Music Awards. NewAgeReporter.com is a web site dedicated to the New Age Music. This recording was nominated based upon reports of spins from broadcasters worldwide.
NewAgeReporter's review of Mermaids & Mariners was stellar, saying, "Every song has a good balance among the various instruments so that none overpowers the other. There is a warm feeling of presence as if the musicians are playing “live” more than in many albums that are supposed to be live. The moderately paced and very gentle instrumental music is a mix of traditional Irish tunes and original Celtic compositions by Roos and Dorothy B. Hawkinson. So be ready to be shanghaied on a journey of exciting music that will span the oceans and make all the legends ring true." (RJ Lannan)

Hot Review of Anne Roos' CD Mermaids & Mariners
In the August/September 2005 issue of Dirty Linen Magazine, Susan Hartman reviews Mermaids & Mariners, the latest album release by Anne Roos:
"Lovely" and "enchanting" are two words that come to mind in describing this CD. First, the packaging: in hardcover-booklet form, fronted by marbled paper surrounding a cutout through which shows a tinted illustration from a German fairy-tale book. Extensive notes include an essay on the nature of the "call of the sea," the history of each tune, and a biography of each musician. A perfect piece for gift shops...but how does the music stand up? Quite well, in fact. Anne Roos is an accomplished Celtic harpist, and she is joined by equally accomplished friends to form an ensemble that makes music at the crossroads of Celtic and "ancient music." The melodies of the Triplett harp are alternately surrounded by, bounded by, and interwoven with the sounds of a viola, fiddle, concertina, and guitar. Off-the-beaten-track traditional tunes are interspersed with newly composed tunes in a similar vein: it's impossible to separate them by ear alone. Easy-listening in the best sense, this reflective and relaxing music is just right for early mornings and late nights.
Dirty Linen Magazine is an internationally distributed folk and world music magazine. It is available for purchase online and at bookstores and large newstands.

The lure of the sea, the love of adventure, the mysterious draw that mermaids and the sea have historically had on mariners--all of this is the stuff of Cambria's new release Mermaids & Mariners (Cambria CD-1145), a Celtic celebration of sea lore through instrumental performances of ballads, laments and sea shanties.
Featuring Anne Roos on Celtic Harp with the following ensemble: Dorothy A. Hawkinson, Fiddle, Hardingfele and Viele; Alan Fuller, Guitar; Michael Frost, Viola; and Riggy Rackin, English Concertina. Mermaids & Mariners is creatively packaged as a 24 page, hard-cover book with CD jacket, containing a bounty of thematic material and illustrations about Celtic sea lore, and attractively designed for store impulse display.
The Mermaids & Mariners CD was conceived by Anne Roos, noted Celtic Harpist, who has professionally performed on the Celtic harp for over two decades. Most of the tunes on the CD are old traditional tunes including Metal Man, I'll Cross the Stormy Sea, Who Can Sail Without the Wind?, Ger the Rigger, The Seas are Deep, Shanghai Brown, Jacky Tar, Arran Boat Song/ Skye Boat Song, The Mermaid's Song, High Barbary, and the Bold Princess Royal/The Princess Royal. Dorothy Hawkinson contributed four additonal tunes for this special Celtic theme: The Mermaid's Tears, Adieu Mon Chou, Maid on the Shore Jig, and Steering by Aldebaran. They all tell the story of life at sea and the lost loves of those who sail on its waves and those who swim its depths.
Mermaids & Mariners is on the Cambria Master Recordings label.
